Single-particle cryo-EM has entered a new era with the advent of direct detectors and state-of-the-art imaging platforms, particularly the Titan Krios. However, even for users at institutes equipped with such high-powered instruments, access to data collection can seem limited. In this presentation, it will be highlighted how high-resolution cryo-EM projects can be developed for successful data collection at central cryo-EM facilities with resources that are commonly available. Furthermore, a possible role for the novel Volta Potential Phase plate in routinely achieving sub-nanometre resolution reconstructions for conventionally challenging specimen will be shown.
